Institute for Public Service faculty members Aimee Williamson and Brenda Bond serve as guest editors for a symposium in the November/December issue of Public Administration Review.  “Boston Strong: Lessons Learned, Gaps Remaining, and New Issues Since 9/11” includes an Introduction by Professors Williamson and Bond, a Perspective by former Boston Police Commissioner Edward F. Davis, and two additional articles reporting empirical research findings related to the attack.  The Boston case demonstrates the complexity of crisis management today and has implications for understanding interagency communication and coordination, as well as training public administrators.  Themes emerging from the symposium include the importance of social capital, trust, and collaboration for effective emergency management and the question of whether or not crises serve as catalysts for reform.
