Current Work

I spend my time conducting research and working with police and criminal justice leaders to advance the policing profession. I mostly study organizational change in police agencies, but more broadly, my research and practice efforts center on organizational structures, functions and processes that facilitate or impede improved performance.

Recently completed research includes studies of inter-agency collaboration for violence reduction, Compstat, research and planning units as mechanism for innovation and change, and effective hot spot policing strategies.

At the national level, I work with the Bureau of Justice Assistance Strategies for Policing Innovation Initiative, and I am a Senior Research Fellow for the Police Foundation.
